Cancer care require frequent access to the hospital for diagnostic tests instrumental, blood samples, chemotherapy, radiotherapy. Tumors, moreover, are much more common in older people, who often do not have adequate social assistance. Transportation in nursing homes so often requires the involvement of the immediate family of the patient, resulting in inconvenience and impact on work and family life of these subjects.

The project, already operating by June 2013, involves the use of a shuttle with a guide volunteer that transfers free the patient from his home to the place of treatment and vice versa. The service runs from 30.07 to 17.30, Monday to Friday, it will be booked by phone.

In its pilot phase, the service will be active only in the city of Catania for patients of Radiotherapy of the AO Cannizzaro Catania. From June 2014, the service is also extended to patients dell’Humanitas-CCO Catania. The current shuttle was purchased thanks to the contribution of ethical charter of the group Unicredit.
