The guide is meant to describe simply the current knowledge about the causes of the main tumors to help people make informed choices and enhance the preservation of health, to learn how to prevent through knowledge.

The guide provides a brief description of the initial epidemiological tumors in Sicily and on the concepts of carcinogenic risk factor, primary and secondary prevention. They are then reviewed and explains the most important environmental and genetic risk factors (smoking, diet and obesity, infectious agents, alcohol, ionizing radiation, employment, pollution, lack of exercise, genetics), their association with various tumor types, attitudes aimed at contain them and protect health with simple tips and practical. Finally shows the recommended screening for cancer prevention and is reported to the European Code Against Cancer. To make the most immediate and effective concepts and messages, the guide includes cartoons and illustrations edited by Salvo Di Fazio.
